The evolution of a design

Filed under: Hobbies, Web Design 42

Finally, a new look. I’ve spent the most of this week and the last designing this new theme for the blog and putting back the gallery on the site (re-databasing, new thumbnails, etc, etc). It’s almost sad how I couldn’t stay away from blue for the color scheme. I was so close to using warm earthen colors, too.

Frosted WIP, the evolution of a design

I’ve only checked it on the latest versions of some browsers, and I’ve yet to add more featured stuff, but in time. For now, I’m just happy to be using something of my own make. :)

Shortcuts make life easy

Keyboard shortcuts, I mean. The following lists are of keyboard shortcuts that I’m glad were invented – alternatively, those shortcuts I use almost on a daily basis. You probably are aware of most of them.

Top Firefox Shortcuts:

  1. CTRL + T: Open Tab
  2. CTRL + L: Jump to location/address bar
  3. CTRL + K: Jump to Google search bar on right
  4. CTRL + W: Close Tab
  5. CTRL + Click link: Open link in a new tab
  6. CTRL + D: Delicious bookmark (needs Delicious Add-on installed)
  7. CTRL + +/- : Increase and decrease font size respectively.

Top Photoshop Shortcuts:

  1. CTRL + ALT + Z: multiple Undos as far as History will allow
  2. CTRL + J: Duplicate Layer
  3. CTRL + SHIFT + N: New Layer
  4. CTRL + G: Group selected layers
  5. CTRL + F: Apply recently used Filter
  6. CTRL + ALT + SHIFT + E: Stamp all visible layers without merging
  7. CTRL + ALT + C: Canvas Resize
  8. CTRL + ALT + I: Image Resize
  9. CTRL + T: Free Transform

Earlier I used to think that Photoshop could really do with more default keyboard shortcuts. What I did not realize was that there are actually so many more.

A little reading up and I was happy to find more useful keyboard shortcuts that I know will come in handy. You may as well have a look at them yourself:
