What I’ve been craving

Filed under: Food & Recipes 282

Milkshakes. Quick, awesome, creamy milkshakes.

I’ve been making these for years now, mostly going on intuition. It’s generally milk, ice cubes, chocolate-milk powder, sugar and a bit of coffee powder that go in the blender randomly – though I’m always cautious with sugar.

What makes a milkshake even better? Ice cream. Either top it with a scoop of vanilla or add in a couple when you’re blending. It makes for a lovely froth. I usually do both, a scoop or two of vanilla ice cream goes a long way in adding richness to a shake.

And if you’re feeling a little fancy, sprinkle chocolate powder/syrup and/or cinnamon on top for that little something extra.

Midnight Minimeals/Snacks

Filed under: Food & Recipes 292

I know snacking at dark hours of the night isn’t healthy but I must almost always have something to nibble on when I’m either reading or working on something, kind of like an energy boost or sleep-chaser.

Here’s what I’ve been nibbling on lately:

  1. Cheese spread with crackers/buns
  2. Peanut butter/butter on bread
  3. Fruits (depends on availability)
  4. Microwaved potatoes ( + scrambled eggs if I’m especially hungry)
  5. Scrambled eggs
  6. Cereal from the box
  7. Ice cream

It’s usually only a slice of bread, a small bun, a small potato or a spoon of ice-cream – nothing too heavy, just something to keep me busy. Notice how most of them can be easily made (and some don’t even need to be), notice how coffee is not on that list.

Earlier there were a lot of chocolate chip cookies, potato chips, mug-brownies or the occasional small bowl of noodles. Sadly, I’ve lost my taste for most of them (the mug brownie remains a favorite though).

What are your favorite foods to munch when working late at night?
